Does Troy Jackson have enough experience?
A logger who spent 20 years in the Maine Legislature and six leading its Senate.
Yes, Troy has both legislative experience and experience as a working person in Maine. Troy Jackson spent 20 years in the Maine Legislature, six of them as President of the Maine Senate. His fellow senators chose him for that job three terms running. He served in the Maine House from 2002 to 2008, then in the Maine Senate from 2008 to 2014 and again from 2016 to 2024.
What a fellow senator says about him
Troy was President of the Maine Senate from 2018 to 2024.
State Senator Mark Lawrence put it this way in September 2026: "When you’re in a political battle you want Troy on your side. He’s very good in the trenches."
Heating help for almost a million Mainers
In his ad "Act," released October 14, 2026, he recalled November 2022: "I was hearing from Mainers worried that they couldn't heat their homes with heating oil at $5.20 a gallon." Then: "I passed a law working with both parties that rushed emergency heating assistance to almost a million Mainers."
Few candidates for Congress come from jobs like his
Duke professor Nick Carnes found only seven general election candidates for Congress who went straight into politics from manual labor, clerical or service jobs. Troy, a former logger with an associate degree from the University of Maine, is the only Senate candidate among them.
In an interview on "The Beat" that the campaign shared on August 28, 2026, he said: "I got a 20-year record in the Maine legislature. Working-class people, middle income people, poor people know exactly what I've been fighting for."
