Troy Jackson Delivers Closing Message: “I Promise I’ll Stand With The People Of Maine Every Time”
PORTLAND, ME — In two new op-eds, fifth-generation Mainer, former Maine Senate President and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson laid out his closing argument, demonstrating the central choice of this race: Susan Collins, a rubberstamp for Donald Trump and a government that works for the billionaires vs. Troy Jackson and a government that works for working people.
Jackson outlines why Susan Collins is no longer right for Maine, including how she betrayed Mainers by voting to advance Trump’s Medicaid cuts and voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, who overturned Roe vs. Wade. He undercut Collins’ central reelection argument about how much money she’s brought into the state, pointing out that her votes have cost Mainers far more than she’s brought in.
Jackson made the case for how he will deliver for Maine families, citing his successful record as President of the Maine Legislature and his experience as a logger in Allagash. And he talked about what this race means for him through the lens of becoming a grandpa, and the world he’d like to build for his granddaughter.
Portland Press Herald: Senate vote is about Maine’s future generations
Susan Collins and I are on the ballot for U.S. Senate, but this election isn’t really about us. It’s about the world we want to create and the life we want to leave behind for our children and our grandchildren.
I believe it’s time we have a government that works for us, not the billionaires who are trying to buy this election and our country.
Collins claims she’s one of the most powerful senators. But when Trump wanted to cut healthcare to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, she didn’t stop it — she greenlit the cuts. And it’s not the first time.
When women across Maine begged Collins not to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, she voted to confirm him anyway.
Collins has spent the last 30 years in Washington. Since Trump returned to power, she’s voted with him 96% of the time. When Trump and the billionaires need her — for judges, tax cuts or wars — Collins is there.
I’ve spent my career trying to make life better for working families because I know what it’s like to work hard and fall behind.
I’ll fight for Medicare for All, lower prescription drug costs, rural hospitals, abortion rights and working people who have watched corporations and billionaires get their way in Washington for far too long.
Because when I think about Willet growing up, I don’t think about whether Democrats or Republicans are winning some argument in Washington.
I think about whether she’ll be able to afford a home someday. Whether there will be a hospital nearby if she needs one. Whether she’ll have the same rights her mother and grandmother had. Whether she can find a good job, raise a family and build a life in Maine.
And if I’m lucky enough to earn your support, I will fight for you, your children and your grandchildren just as hard as I’d fight for mine.
Bangor Daily News: Opinion: I Promise I’ll Stand With The People of Maine Every Time
I’m a dad, a grandpa, and a fifth-generation logger from Allagash. And as much as Susan Collins and her billionaire backers want you to think I’m the bogeyman, I’m not. I’m just a working guy who’s tired of working Mainers being ignored.
I’m running for the U.S. Senate because it’s about damn time working people have a say in this country, and that’s exactly why I think Collins and the billionaires are trying to take us down.
Collins’ donors appear to get access and handouts. Working Mainers get left behind. Families struggling to afford groceries, medicine and heating oil shouldn’t have to write a campaign check to get their senator’s attention.
And the money she’s brought back to Maine amount to pennies compared to what we’ve lost from the policies she’s rubber-stamped.
I’m running for the U.S. Senate, but this isn’t about me. It’s about Maine people rising up and demanding the government they deserve.
Look at the ads, look at the attacks. I think the billionaires are terrified that they’ll lose their power.
Collins and her ultra-rich donors appear to be saying and doing anything they can to hold onto their power — even if it means lying about me and my family.
In the Senate, I’ll fight to lower costs, protect Social Security and Medicare, defend abortion rights, and make the wealthy pay their fair share.
I think this campaign boils down to Susan Collins and the billionaires versus the people of Maine. Collins has spent the last 30 years in Washington. I think she’s been there too long and she’s become part of the problem.
I promise you this: I’ll stand with the people of Maine every time. I don’t owe Trump or the billionaires anything. I owe the people of Maine everything.
