NEW: President Barack Obama Backs Troy Jackson, Cites Record Fighting for Working Mainers

President Obama: “Troy Jackson is running to be your next senator and I’m proud to be on board”

PORTLAND, ME —  Today, former President Barack Obama shared his support for Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson in a new video, pointing to Jackson’s working-class roots and record of lowering prescription drug costs, delivering universal school meals, raising wages, and protecting abortion rights in Maine.

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE:

“I’m honored to have President Obama standing with us in this fight,” said Jackson. “The momentum we’re seeing in Maine is something I’ve never seen before. Working people are sick and tired of a government that works for the wealthy and well-connected while they struggle to get by. They’re ready for change, and together, we’re going to bring that change to Washington.”

Transcript:

President Obama: Hello, Maine. Barack Obama here. Troy Jackson is running to be your next senator, and I'm proud to be on board.

President Obama: In this economy, we need a fighter like Troy. A fifth-generation logger, Troy worked 80 hours a week and still struggled to get by. So as Maine's Senate President, he fought to raise wages, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and provide free lunch to every student in the state. After Roe was overturned, Troy helped protect the right to an abortion in Maine.

President Obama: And now we need Troy to deliver for us in the Senate. So do not sit this one out. Get out there and vote for Troy Jackson. You can vote early from October 5th to the 29th or vote in person on November 3rd.
