As Mainers Head To The Polls, Voters Are Sharing Why Troy Jackson Is Their Pick
In Central Maine: Susan Collins is out of touch on affordability issues
In Penobscot Bay Pilot: Troy Jackson cares about all Maine families
PORTLAND, ME — With less than three weeks until election day, Mainers from across the state are sharing why they are choosing fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson in the ballot box. In letters to the editor, life-long Democrats and former Collins voters alike are uniting behind Troy’s authenticity and determination to fight for working people, amplifying their support in local papers across Maine.
In Penobscot Bay Pilot: Troy Jackson cares about all Maine families
Troy Jackson will help Maine families, because he understands the needs and concerns of working-class Mainers. Susan Collins has shown again and again she is aligned with the Trump agenda and the billionaires.
Things will only get worse as more provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act take effect. This bill rewards billionaires with tax cuts, while making program changes that penalize families, especially families with moderate and lower incomes.
Hard-working families seeking affordable health care coverage are being penalized in order to give tax cuts to billionaires.
Troy Jackson cares about all Maine families and therefore deserves our vote for U.S. Senate.
In Bangor Daily News: We served with Troy Jackson. We’re excited to support him for US Senate.
Mainers know Jackson’s working-class story and his passion for taking on the billionaires. But we want Mainers to know that Jackson also led the effort to elect more women to the Maine Senate than at any time in Maine history.
Jackson rallied Republicans and Democrats to pass universal free meals for all Maine public school students. Kids can’t learn if they’re hungry, and Jackson recognized more quickly than many that providing universal meals would ensure that kids in Maine — no matter where they live — can get at least one healthy, nutritious meal a day.
He worked hard for paid family and medical leave to make sure families can take the time they need to be with a sick child or an aging parent, can have a baby, can recover from an injury or illness without losing a paycheck.
When moms and dads came to the State House looking for help, Jackson was there. He worked to make childcare more affordable, he stood up to corporations who were trying to weaken child labor laws while investing in apprenticeship programs.
After Sen. Susan Collins’ pivotal support of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and the U.S. Supreme Court rolled back constitutional protections for abortion care, Jackson led the effort to strengthen Maine’s protection for women.
In short, Troy Jackson invested in women leaders and championed issues that matter most to us. And when tensions arose in Augusta, as they always do, Jackson had our backs.
In the Penobscot Bay Pilot: Step Up and Vote
Thankfully, Troy Jackson stepped up to bat — a working-class leader whose record proves his support for workers, women, families and retirees. The AFL-CIO is one among many groups strongly endorsing Troy. Planned Parenthood rated Troy 100% in 2018 through 2024.
The AFL-CIO is one among many groups strongly endorsing Troy. Planned Parenthood rated Troy 100% in 2018 through 2024. His many positive laws protect workers' rights, women’s healthcare (abortion/birth control rights), and LGBTQ+ rights. They also end wage theft and provide free student meals.
Troy stands for affordability, Medicare for All, properly-funded Social Security, fair billionaire/corporate taxes, abolishing rogue ICE, Federal abortion rights, and ending Gaza genocide — all for working people.
Mainers, unite to vote FOR Troy Jackson FOR our families, neighbors, affordability, and sanity!
In Bangor Daily News: Why I no longer support Susan Collins
For 18 years, I supported Susan Collins. [...] I believed her growing seniority would translate into greater benefits for Maine. Over time, I began to see the limits of that bargain.
Maine has lost much of the value-added economy that once turned our natural resources into good jobs: paper, shoes, textiles, manufactured housing, wood products and food processing. We have spent decades managing the consequences.
Her vote for Brett Kavanaugh became a turning point for me.
Troy Jackson is imperfect. I will not agree with him on everything. But he comes from the Maine economy I am describing and understands economic insecurity from the ground up. I support Troy Jackson, warts and all, because Maine needs more than help managing decline. We need leadership determined to reverse it.
In Central Maine: Susan Collins is out of touch on affordability issues
Sen. Susan Collins talks about all she does for Maine. She doesn’t talk about what’s happening to the rising costs we face daily. Oil prices are over $100 per barrel and the prices of products we use— diesel, gasoline and jet fuel — have soared. Diesel is about $6 per gallon today.
Why is it so high? The cost of refining diesel into gas at the pump is about four times higher than normal. President Trump’s “war of choice” with Iran and the war in Ukraine have destroyed substantial refining capacity. It won’t be replaced soon. Who does it hurt? Anyone who uses diesel fuel to carry out their work — fishermen, farmers, truckers and shippers, among others. And there’s no relief in sight.
I’m voting for Troy Jackson. He gets it. I want a senator that knows how hard it is for people to make ends meet and to hold this president accountable. I hope everyone will join me.
