Troy Jackson Meets With Mainers Across Washington And Waldo Counties

MAINE, US —  Fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson met with voters in Machias, Belfast, Northport, and Franklin to talk about the challenges facing working families  and his commitment to build a government that puts everyday people ahead of billionaires and corporate special interests.

As Jackson travels the state listening to Mainers and laying out his plans to lower costs and fight for working people, Susan Collins continues to side with Donald Trump and the billionaires benefiting from his agenda.

“What I'm seeing everywhere I go is a new energy and momentum fueled by people who know our government hasn’t been working for them for a long time,” said Jackson. “It’s everyday people who are standing up and demanding something different — a government that fights for everyday working class people instead of handing more tax breaks to billionaires. That’s what this campaign is about.”

In between stops, Jackson joined MS Now’s Connect with Jacob Sorboroff to talk about how Susan Collins is selling out Mainers and has voted with Donald Trump 96% of the time. During the interview, Troy also challenged Susan Collins to join him at town halls this week.

  • Jacob Sorboff: Let's just start with this independent moniker that Susan Collins likes to give herself. Actual independents make up nearly a third of the electorate in your state. This sort of symbolic independence, as Susan Collins feigns, from Trump does not seem to be – I've been mentioning, I spent some time in your state this summer – It doesn't seem to be washing with voters this time around, at least to me. Is that your sense as well? And if so, why is that?

  • Troy Jackson: […] Over the last six years, people in this state are seeing point blank how she plays this game of counting votes and then throwing one every once in a while. But they know that 96% of the time she's voting with Donald Trump to make people's lives in this state harder. Things like tax cuts for the wealthy, Elon Musk. [...] But what we do care about is our health care system is crashing here in Maine. We're losing nursing homes, birthing centers, hospitals because of the big beautiful bill and it's going to get worse. […] Tariffs, Iran war, Roe versus Wade, all these things. Susan Collins is the chair of appropriations, and she likes to crow about that. She could have stopped all of that, but she refuses to because she's scared to death of angering Donald Trump, and voters in this state know that.
