MAINE —  Yesterday, fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson, kicked off Labor Day Weekend with events across Maine where he shared his roots as a union member and commitment to fighting for working people in the U.S. Senate. The day included Jackson’s third town hall which Susan Collins again did not attend despite Jackson’s invitation.

“I’m proud to stand in solidarity with my union brothers and sisters today and every day,” said Jackson. “This weekend is all about coming together, celebrating the strides made by the labor movement, and recommitting to continuing to push forward. When working people come together, we can accomplish anything.”

Jackson started the morning in Kittery meeting with union members and leadership for coffee and conversations.

In Wells, Jackson joined residents of a mobile home park and the Maine Labor Climate Council for a roundtable discussion about the issues working Mainers are facing.

Then, Jackson toured a welding facility with People’s Inclusive Welding which helps underrepresented communities get involved in the Trades.

Jackson traveled to Jay where he held his third town hall at the site of the historic Jay labor strike. Jackson took questions from the crowd and saved a seat for Susan Collins to do the same, although she did not show.

Jackson ended the night with labor karaoke. He joined union members and Mainers singing about work.
