Nation’s Largest Transit Union Endorses Troy Jackson For U.S. Senate
PORTLAND, ME — Today, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) endorsed fifth-generation Mainer and logger, longtime union member, and former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson for U.S. Senate.
ATU pointed to Jackson’s decades-long record of standing with working people — from organizing fellow loggers in northern Maine to taking on corporations and powerful special interests as Maine Senate President.
“I’m damn proud to have the Amalgamated Transit Union standing with us in this fight,” said Jackson. “These are the drivers, operators, mechanics, and maintenance workers who keep our communities moving every single day. They deserve good wages, safe working conditions, and a government that has their backs. I’ve spent my life standing shoulder to shoulder with working people, and in the U.S. Senate, that’s exactly who I’ll keep fighting for. Susan Collins can keep looking out for billionaires and special interests. I’ll stand with working people every damn time.”
“The Amalgamated Transit Union is proud to endorse Troy Jackson for U.S. Senate in Maine. Working families are tired of politicians who side with the ultra-wealthy while workers are asked to pay the price. As a fifth generation Maine logger and longtime union member who served 20 years in the state legislature rising to become the Senate President, Troy understands the challenges facing our members and everyday Americans. He is the kind of leader we need in the halls of Congress,” said Amalgamated Transit Union International President John Costa.
ATU’s endorsement adds to the growing coalition of more than twenty unions backing Jackson’s campaign for Senate — a reflection of the broad support he has built from working people across Maine. Jackson has paired that grassroots enthusiasm with strong fundraising and polling showing him in a competitive position to defeat Susan Collins this November.
