Anchor 1: ProPublica is reporting that the FBI sought to open a bribery investigation into Republican Senator Susan Collins's interactions with a top donor, a guy named Martin Kao, the CEO of a defense company called Navatek.
Anchor 2: Emails show Collins' office pushed the Navy to award specific contracts to Navatek.
Anchor 3: Quote, “Agents had enough evidence to pursue a sweeping bribery probe, but then President Trump returned to office, purged the FBI's anti-corruption unit, and the investigation reportedly died.”
Anchor 4: After meeting with Collins' political team, Kao directed a $150,000 Super PAC donation through a shell company.
Reporter: He said “very smart” response to Martin Kao suggesting using a shell company for donations to Senator Collins’ PAC.
Steve Abbott, Collins’ Campaign Manager: I might also say the same thing.
