AUGUSTA, ME —  Fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson spent Indigenous Peoples’ Day with the communities that first called Maine home, celebrating the heritage of the Wabanaki nations and speaking on the issues that matter most to its members.

Troy has a long record of legislative advocacy for the Indigenous people in Maine. As Maine Senate President, he passed legislation improving access to clean drinking water, enforcing the exclusive jurisdiction of tribal courts, enshrining protections for Wabanaki children and their families, and legislation supporting economic development.

Troy joined the Wabanaki nations for a celebration of culture and traditions Monday morning. Later on in the day, Troy joined a virtual roundtable with tribal leaders to listen to their priorities and concerns. On the call, Troy vowed to carry on his commitment to tribal issues when he is elected to the U.S. Senate.
