Bangor Daily News: “A vote for Susan Collins is a vote for Donald Trump”
Central Maine: “United States senators, too, need that backbone. It’s no longer clear to me that Collins has it.”
PORTLAND, ME — Mainers from across the state are outraged by Susan Collins as she fails every day people again and again by voting with Trump 96% of the time, making corrupt deals to enrich herself, taking dark money from out-of-state billionaires, rolling back reproductive rights, enabling Trump’s rogue ICE agents to roam our neighborhoods, and leaving veterans behind.
Read what Mainers are saying:
Bangor Daily News: A vote for Susan Collins is a vote for Donald Trump
In my view, Collins has the title but President Donald Trump makes the decisions, so a vote for Collins is a vote for Trump. If you want a senator to represent Maine, I suggest you vote for Troy Jackson.
Central Maine: ProPublica reminds us to shine a light on dark money
Collins’ office steered millions in Navy contracts to Navatek, a defense contractor, while her campaign and her super PAC collected money from its CEO, Martin Kao. And when Kao’s money broke the law, the people around her didn’t reject it. They helped hide it. Twice.
We need a Congress that will pass laws to force super PACs and dark money groups to disclose their donors, match small-dollar donations with public funds like we do here in Maine, and stop super PACs from operating as arms of the campaigns they support. Susan Collins has voted to block these reforms. Troy Jackson has pledged to champion them.
I grew up in Lewiston, the son of a teacher and pastor. The people I grew up with don’t have shell companies or know super PAC fundraisers. We expect the people we send to Washington to work for us, not big-money donors.
Central Maine: Susan Collins’ vote for abortion foe does not add up
Collins told reporters in June that when she looks at judicial nominations, she considers a nominee’s “qualifications, their integrity, their background and their experience in reaching a decision.” At the same time, she said she didn’t regret putting Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, where he soon helped toss Roe v. Wade into the garbage dump.
Mainers can forgive a senator for making a mistake. But Collins has doubled down, here.
United States senators, too, need that backbone. It’s no longer clear to me that Collins has it.
Lewiston Sun Journal: Collins’ words on healthcare don’t match her actions
Sen. Collins voted to advance the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to the Senate floor. It will cut crucial Medicaid funding for rural American hospitals by more than $150 billion. That bill cut Affordable Care Act subsidies for working Americans, driving up the cost of health insurance so it was no longer affordable for many.
Sen. Collins voted to confirm numerous anti-choice justices and judges to lifetime terms. Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch are the most visible of these, but there are others.
In 2022, Collins voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act that would have restored the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law.
She voted to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, despite his history of vaccine skepticism. […] Under his guidance, dangerous diseases and parasites have reemerged as threats to the American public.
Susan Collins’ claims of supporting healthcare in Maine are not reflected in her actions. Maine needs a senator who does more than “talk” about healthcare. It’s time for a change.
Kennebec Journal: Susan Collins is Out of Touch on Affordability Issues
Sen. Susan Collins talks about all she does for Maine. She doesn’t talk about what’s happening to the rising costs we face daily. Oil prices are over $100 per barrel and the prices of products we use— diesel, gasoline and jet fuel — have soared. Diesel is about $6 per gallon today.
The cost of refining diesel into gas at the pump is about four times higher than normal. President Trump’s “war of choice” with Iran and the war in Ukraine have destroyed substantial refining capacity. It won’t be replaced soon. Who does it hurt? Anyone who uses diesel fuel to carry out their work — fishermen, farmers, truckers and shippers, among others. And there’s no relief in sight.
President Trump promised to bring prices down and to end “forever wars.” We’re told that everything is great. I haven’t seen it yet and I no longer expect it.
I’m voting for Troy Jackson. He gets it. I want a senator that knows how hard it is for people to make ends meet and to hold this president accountable. I hope everyone will join me.
