Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Troy Jackson For U.S. Senate
PORTLAND, ME — Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson, citing his decade long record of protecting and expanding abortion rights in Maine while Susan Collins voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, one of the three justices she supported who overturned Roe v Wade. She said again last month that she does not regret that vote.
“I’m honored to have the support of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and I’m proud to have earned a 100% voting record with Planned Parenthood for nearly a decade,” said Jackson. “We’ve fought together to protect abortion rights and expand reproductive health care in Maine, and when Roe was overturned, we got to work and passed some of the strongest protections for abortion access in the country. Susan Collins voted to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, and he helped overturn Roe along with two other justices she supported. She can defend those votes all she wants. I’m running for Senate to restore the federal right to abortion and make damn sure politicians never get to take that freedom away from Mainers again.”
“Troy Jackson has proven exactly what kind of champion he is for reproductive freedom,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “For a decade, he has stood with Planned Parenthood and helped make Maine a national leader in protecting abortion access after the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Susan Collins, meanwhile, helped put three justices on the Supreme Court who overturned Roe, including Brett Kavanaugh — and she still says she has no regrets. The stakes in this race could not be clearer. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Troy Jackson because Mainers can count on him to fight for their freedom, and because we need his voice in the U.S. Senate to restore and protect abortion rights nationwide.”
Jackson introduced landmark legislation in 2023 expanding abortion protections in Maine and has earned a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood’s Maine chapter. His record stands in sharp contrast to Collins, who voted to confirm Kavanaugh and has said she does not regret that vote even after he joined the Supreme Court majority that overturned Roe v. Wade.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement comes as the Jackson campaign launched Women for Troy, a coalition of Mainers organizing to elect a senator who will protect abortion rights, defend access to reproductive health care, and stand up to politicians trying to take those freedoms away.
With control of the U.S. Senate and the future of abortion rights on the line, Maine voters will face a clear choice this November: Susan Collins helped put the votes on the Supreme Court that overturned Roe. Troy Jackson has spent more than a decade protecting abortion rights in Maine and will fight to restore those rights nationwide.
