MAINE, USA —  Ahead of tonight’s first U.S. Senate debate and on the anniversary of Susan Collins’ vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, Democratic nominee Troy Jackson is highlighting his commitment to protecting reproductive freedom after joining Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund leaders and Mainers for events on Monday.

At a Monday evening town hall in Bath with Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund President and CEO Nicole Clegg, Jackson heard from Mainers and outlined his commitment to protecting access to reproductive health care in the U.S. Senate.

Jackson and Clegg discussed the consequences of Collins’ votes to confirm three of the justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. Despite millions of women losing access to abortion care, Collins has said she has no regrets about those votes.

They also discussed how Maine’s next U.S. senator could help decide who fills the next Supreme Court vacancy—and whether reproductive rights face further threats.

“I feel proud that I was part of a team of people that made sure that women in Maine didn’t lose their reproductive rights,” said Jackson. “We made sure that lower-income women had care and Mainecare. You know, these things are a big, big deal.”

“I just want to thank you for the work that you do,” said Nicole Clegg, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund. “And then I'm gonna just say I find it really fascinating that Susan Collins and her campaign keep saying that ‘well, these aren't problems in Maine’ and the reason they're not problems in Maine is because of the work that you do.”

Earlier in the day, Troy attended a roundtable with Planned Parenthood leaders and advocates, hearing their personal experiences with reproductive health care and discussing his commitment to defending their rights in Washington.
