Troy Jackson Continues Building Momentum With Four New Polls Showing His Lead Against Susan Collins

PORTLAND, ME —  Fifth-generation logger, former Maine Senate President, and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Troy Jackson continues to lead polling against Susan Collins. Four different polls over the past week show that Mainers are tired of Susan Collins voting with Trump 96% of the time and putting billionaires first. Troy Jackson is campaigning across the state, speaking with voters about his promise to lower costs across the board, put Mainers before corporations and billionaires, and protect the rights and freedoms that we are entitled to.

AARP Poll: Incumbent Susan Collins Trails by Slim Margin in Maine Senate Race

50% Jackson, 47% Collins 

  • The former state Senate president is leading against Collins 50 to 47 percent [...].

  • Jackson leads by 25 points among voters under 50.

  • Eighty-seven percent of voters 50-plus describe themselves as “extremely” motivated to vote, including 89 percent of those 65 and older. Meanwhile, 73 percent of voters younger than 50 say they are extremely motivated, including just 69 percent of those under 35.

  • Asked about the issues that will factor most into their vote in the midterms, 84 percent of 50-plus voters cited the rising cost of everyday items such as groceries and gas, followed by the future of Social Security (81 percent) and the cost of health care (80 percent).

  • Those are important issues nationwide but especially in Maine, where 23.5 percent of residents are 65 and older — the highest share among all states, says Noël Bonam, AARP Maine state director.

48% Jackson, 43% Collins

  • The survey of 650 likely Maine voters shows Jackson, a former state Senate president, is up by five points with the support of 48% of respondents, compared with 43% for Collins [...].

  • “Susan Collins wins elections in Maine by getting Democrats and independents to vote for her. It’s her superpower. But this year, rising prices, an unpopular war and an unpopular president are looking like electoral kryptonite. [...],” said John Cluverius, director of survey research for the Center for Public Opinion at UMass Lowell and an associate professor of political science.
