Troy Jackson for U.S. Senate in Maine

PRESS RELEASE

“An Arsonist With a Cup of Water”: Jackson Calls Out Collins for Heating Crisis Band-Aid

“Susan Collins talks constantly about her power in Washington. Where was that power when Mainers needed her to stop this war?”

PORTLAND, ME — Following today’s announcement that the Trump administration will release heating oil from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve, Troy Jackson called out Susan Collins for seeking credit for what Trump’s own energy secretary calls a ‘temporary measure’ to address the heating crisis she helped create.

With heating oil prices up 80% and winter approaching, Jackson said Mainers need immediate relief — and a senator who will use their power to stop the war driving up their bills.

Jackson released the following statement:

“Mainers are looking at heating oil prices that have jumped 80% and wondering how the hell they’re going to afford to keep their homes warm this winter. They need help, and they need it now. But Susan Collins cannot erase her responsibility for this crisis with a press release.

“Donald Trump’s pointless war in Iran helped drive these prices through the roof. At the beginning of this war, when we had the best chance to shut it down, Susan Collins voted five times to let it continue. Now, two weeks before Election Day, she wants Mainers to believe she’s coming to the rescue.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Susan Collins is like an arsonist who sets the house on fire and then wants credit for bringing you a cup of water.

“Susan Collins talks constantly about her power in Washington. Where was that power when Mainers needed her to stop this war before it drove up the cost of keeping their homes warm?

“Mainers deserve more than Band-Aids after the damage is already done. They deserve a senator who will stand up to Donald Trump before his decisions become their next unaffordable bill.

“Unlike Senator Collins, I owe Donald Trump nothing. I owe the people of Maine everything. And in the Senate, that’s who I’ll fight for.”
